Mega-rally in front of UN building in New York; more than 5000 participated

More than 5000 were at the mega-rally organized by Tamils of North America (Canada and USA) in front of United Nations building in Midtown Manhattan in New York City on Friday, April 17. The Mega Rally that started off in front of the United Nations Head Quarters at 10.00 AM lasted till 2.30 PM. Banners carrying LTTE emblem, Tamil Eelam's red and yellow flags mingled with USA and Canada flags were seen everywhere in that area.
At 2.30 PM, the rally started moving down 47 E street 1st avenue, 2nd avenue and 42 E street 7th avenue to Times Square in an organized procession, chanting slogans, and raising awareness of the Genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Demonstrators including tiny children were seen carrying placards. Banners and placards were reading,"Great Nation USA, Save the Tamils," "LTTE represents Tamils - Free Tamil Eelam," "Kosovo-yes, Tamileelam-yes," "Stop Massacre, Stop Genocide," "It's not War on Terror, It's War on Tamils.'
Tamil National Reporter from US commended the rally as peaceful and very successful in putting forward the emotions of the Tamils and there demands well and clear.
Demonstrators were calling out "USA save Tamils," "this is not terrorism," "Ban Ki-moon, Stand up to Evil," and "Ban Ki-moon, who do you work for?"
They were asking the U.N. to take charge of the Sri Lankan region where they say Tamil civilians are being killed.
The organizers, speaking to Tamil National contributed the success of the rally to the people from America and Canada and thanked all the media that gave coverage of the rally. They were happy the mega rally went on peacefully without any notable incidents.
